Tobia Hassan becomes first Pakistani woman cricketer to win ICC Player of the Month award

Emerging Pakistani spinner Tobia Hassan has been named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year for her outstanding performance and has become the first Pakistani woman cricketer to win the award.
Tobias recently had the best performance during his debut series, for which he received the award.

The 21-year-old spinner was instrumental in Pakistan’s 1-2 victory over Sri Lanka in the series and was declared the man of the series for taking five wickets at an average of 8.8 and an economy of 3.66.
His best performance in this regard was in the first T20 International match of his career played in Karachi in which he took three wickets for 8 runs.

He surpassed his captain Bismillah Maroof and Trinity Smith in the race for the award.
Sana Mir, a former captain of the national team and a member of the voting panel, praised the performance of the young Pakistani cricketer and said that Tobia had shown a lot of confidence and great skill in her debut series. It was a great moment for Pakistan to celebrate their victory in the first series.
On the other hand, veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews won the award for the best male player in May.
He was given the award for his outstanding performance in the series against Bangladesh in the ICC Test Championship where he scored 344 runs at an average of 172 in two Test matches.

He played an unbeaten innings of 199 in Chhattisgarh and 145 in Mirpur, thanks to which his team not only won but also collected valuable points in the Test Championship.
Mathews is the first Sri Lankan cricketer to receive the award since its inception in January 2021.
